What Being A Manager Is All About

What Makes a Good Manager?

A good manager has many desirable qualities, such as putting people and safety first, and of course being a great leader. To help their teams succeed and to make a the company more profitable, they have to be involved in the everyday day activities and set a good example.  Balancing the responsibilities takes determination and organization.  There is a quote found in the well-known comic book series ‘Spiderman’: “with great power comes great responsibility”  written by Stan Lee.

Managers have to make sure the daily operation of the company runs smoothly, they have to be in charge of employee schedules, and they are responsible for staffing, both hiring and firing. They have to be empathetic but practical. Employees look up to them for guidance and leadership especially in regards to solving a work related issue. Managers can’t be judgemental or brush the person aside, instead they must acknowledge the situation and try to find a solution.

One of the most needed skills is to have the ability to problem-solve. Their team may come to them with a work related problem or even a personal issue. They need to be approachable. A sign of a strong manager is the ability to delegate responsibility while allowing his or her team to use  initiative and getting the desired results. Therefore, good communication skills is pivotal. Last but not least, a great manager encourages a fun and relaxed working environment which normally makes workers more productive.
